# Missing Open Graph tags

Open Graph tags decide how a link to your page looks when it’s shared in chat apps and on social networks. Without them, the preview is guessed, often with no image.

## What it means
Open Graph is a set of meta tags, such as og:title, og:description, og:image and og:url, that describe a page for link previews. X (Twitter) also reads its own twitter: tags and falls back to Open Graph.

We flag pages without og:title or og:image.

## Why it matters
A shared link with a clear title and image is easier to recognize and more likely to be clicked than a bare address. Without the tags, each network guesses, and the result is often the wrong image, an odd excerpt or no picture at all.

Open Graph isn’t a Google ranking signal; it affects how your pages look when people share them.

## How to find it yourself
- View the page source and search for og:.
- The meta tag checker shows the tags and a preview of the share card.

## How to fix it on any website
1. Add og:title, og:description, og:url and og:image to every page; og:image needs an absolute https URL to a large landscape image (1200 × 630 pixels is a common size).
2. Keep the tags in the HTML the server sends: many preview crawlers don’t run JavaScript.

## On Shopify
1. Set a social sharing image under Online Store › Preferences; most themes output Open Graph tags from each product’s image and description.

## On WordPress and WooCommerce
1. Use your SEO plugin’s social settings to set default and per-page Open Graph images.

## How to check the fix
- Run the meta tag checker and look at the share preview.
- Networks cache previews: use their own debugging tools, such as Facebook’s Sharing Debugger, to refresh them.

## How FixReports finds it
The SEO checker looks for og:title and og:image on every page it tests; the meta tag checker shows all Open Graph and Twitter tags with a preview.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need both Open Graph and Twitter tags?

Open Graph is usually enough: X falls back to og: tags when twitter: tags are missing. Add twitter:card to choose the large image layout.
