WCAG 4.1.2 · Level A

IDs used in ARIA and labels must be unique

Several elements share an id that labels or describes something, so assistive technology may read the wrong label.

What this rule checks

Ensure every id attribute value used in ARIA and in labels is unique.

Why it matters

Labels and descriptions point to elements by id; duplicates break that link (WCAG 4.1.2).

How to fix it

  1. Give each element a unique id and update the attributes that reference it (for, aria-labelledby, aria-describedby).
  2. In Shopify sections, add {{ section.id }} to ids so repeated sections stay unique.

How to check the fix

  • Re-scan and confirm the duplicate-id rule passes.

How FixReports finds it

Our scan runs the axe-core rule duplicate-id-aria in a real Chrome browser on every page it tests, and reports each failing element with its page, its markup and, where it applies, a screenshot.

An automated test confirms that this specific problem is present. It can't tell whether the rest of the page is accessible: some barriers only show up when a person checks the page.
