WCAG 2.5.8 · Level AA

All touch targets must be 24px large, or leave sufficient space

Some tap targets are smaller than 24 by 24 pixels and too close together, which makes them hard to hit on a phone.

What this rule checks

Ensure touch targets have sufficient size and space.

Why it matters

WCAG 2.5.8 (new in WCAG 2.2) requires targets of at least 24×24 CSS pixels or enough spacing around them.

How to fix it

  1. Increase the clickable area of small links and buttons with padding or min-width/min-height, or add space between them.

How to check the fix

  • Re-scan, then try the controls on a phone.

How FixReports finds it

Our scan runs the axe-core rule target-size in a real Chrome browser on every page it tests, and reports each failing element with its page, its markup and, where it applies, a screenshot.

An automated test confirms that this specific problem is present. It can't tell whether the rest of the page is accessible: some barriers only show up when a person checks the page.
